Frank Stringfellow Camp #822
A Southern Alternative in Northern Virginia

Preservation of History --
145th anniversary of the first 12-star Battle Flag of the Army of the Potomac:

On September 30, 2006, the Frank Stringfellow Camp #822 SCV commemorated the 145th anniversary of the approval by Generals Joseph Johnston, PGT Beauregard, Gustavus Smith, and Congressman William Miles of the first 12-star Battle Flag of the Army of the Potomac (later the Army of Northern Virginia).

After his victory at the Battle of First Manassas, General Beauregard established his HQ in the Ratcliffe Mansion on September 12, 1861, in what became the City of Fairfax. The commemoration occurred in front of the original Fairfax Court House at the monument to Captain John Quincy Marr, the first Confederate officer killed during the War for Southern Independence. Fairfax Court House is about half of a mile east of the site of the Ratcliffe Mansion.
