SCV Contingent Marches in National Memorial Day Parade Frank Stringfellow Camp has marched with the Robert E. Lee Camp in every National Memorial Day Parade since the parade was revived in 2005. During the 2009 parade on May 25, Claude Crump III and his son, Claude wearing his dad's VMI 1983 uniform, joined Lt. Cmdr. David Stringfellow and Cmdr. Mike Shumaker in supporting our compatriots from Robert E. Lee Camp #726 of Alexandria, the Maryland Division SCV, and some re-enactors on horse and foot. In all a total of 64 souls, who paid tribute to Confederate soldiers, sailors, and marines. When some from the SCV contingent posed on the steps of the National Gallery of Art, many people took pictures, including Claude, who served as official SCV photographer. As we passed the reviewing stand, the announcer read a very nice description of the SCV and its purpose. Along the route we consistently received a hearty welcome, including cheers & Rebel yells, from the large crowd and gladly returned their enthusiasm. The parade was supposed to appear on the Pentagon Channel. One of our newest members, Chuck Fedorko, reported that he saw "live on news channel 8 the SCV honor guard pass in review." |
